The St. John School Shake Your Shamrock Auction on March 17 at Fremont Studios is quickly approaching! It's an event you won't want to miss as we come together to celebrate 100 Years of Faith, Academics, and Community. Below are a few reminders to help get you ready for the big day.
Sponsorship Deadline - January 27
Calling all sponsors! If you own a company or know of a business that would welcome an opportunity for visibility through weekly marketing and exposure at the live event, please send us a note at fundraising@st-johnschool.org or visit the sponsor page to view benefits and sign up. We appreciate our sponsors and their commitment to St. John! Sponsorship proceeds greatly help support the costs of running this large event.
Final Procurement Deadline - January 27
To date, nearly 33% of families have turned in their auction donation and/or procurement form - thank you! The goal is 100% participation to make this event as successful as possible. Please turn in your items and submit your procurement forms by no later than January 27. Need ideas? Visit the Donation Guide. We are especially in need of bottles of wine for our Wine Grab game (valued at $20 or more), gift cards, and cash donations.
Tickets on Sale - February 3
Tickets to the live event will be available for purchase beginning February 3 at 8:00am on Greater Giving. Ticket price will increase on March 1, so be sure to get yours early!

A New Year's Greeting from Principal O'Leary
"Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh! Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed a Nollaig shona - a Merry Christmas. 2023 is going to be a grand year altogether! To mark it, I celebrated its arrival twice - at 4:00pm on December 31 as the New Year started in Ireland and then again at Seattle time! Lots of celebrating, but the polar plunge woke me up! I wish all the ladies a restful Nollaig na mban, Women's Christmas, on January 6th."

The auction is only 2.5 months away. Principal O'Leary said it best with "The days are getting longer and the time to 'Shake Your Shamrock' is getting shorter!" Below are some upcoming dates to help get you ready for the big day:

Procurement

To submit your auction donation, complete the online donation form and then turn in your item(s) to the school office or parish admin. building by January 27. There are many ways to meet your $250 donation commitment:
- request a donation from your favorite restaurant, coffee shop, gym, or other business
- purchase an item to donate
- contribute to your classroom auction package
- make a cash donation
- donate bottles of wine for the popular WINE GRAB game at the auction. Bottles should be valued at $20+

An Irish Christmas
Principal O'Leary shares a few of her favorite memories and Irish traditions around Christmas time!
- To mark the beginning of Christmas, the youngest and the oldest family members light a candle on Christmas Eve. The candle stays lit through the 12 days of Christmas.
- Plum Pudding is the family favorite Christmas dessert.
- A Pantomine (Panto for short) is a musical/fairy-tale based comedy that Ms. O'Leary and her family would attend every year during the Christmas season. Fun fact: The main male character was always played by a female, and the main female character was always played by a male.
- Making Christmas Cakes is one of her favorite memories! These cakes were homemade, heavily decorated and offered to guests attending dinner on December 26, also known as St. Stephen's Day.
- Also on December 26, Ms. O'Leary's dad would gather up the kids and take them to several churches around the city to look at Nativity scenes and then vote for their favorite. Bonus for mom: she got to stay home and enjoy a well-deserved break!
- January 6 Feast of the Epiphany is also known as Nollaig na mBan or Women's Christmas, a well-known tradition! This is the 12th day of Christmas and only after this day, should you take down your Christmas tree.
